I went here once right when recreational was legalized at the beginning of 2018, and when I stopped in again a couple nights ago, I realized why I hadn't been back. To be totally up front and honest, we came in right before closing. But they let us in and they let us into the back. I was with coworkers and clients who were from out of state and really wanted to go to a dispensary, so I took them. I kept telling everyone they were almost closed, so we might not be let in. BUT WE WERE. So if anyone working didn't want us there, they should have turned us away. Only one person we were with had cash and planned on purchasing. And we didn't know they would separate us in two different rooms. But they separated us, and I was in the room with a client who didn't plan on buying but was curious. The woman inside made it clear they had closed just a couple minutes prior, and she was so rude. I told her I live here and plan on coming back, but she snapped "did I mention we closed???" So I said "we're waiting for those people in the other room to buy what they're buying, but if you want us to leave, we'll leave." She got weird and suddenly felt like talking, but once our coworkers were done, so we're we. The people here are super sleazy and rude, and I'm definitely never coming back here. There are plenty of other options in Sacramento. By the way, what you don't know is that I was also still working for the day. Just because it didn't look like work to you doesn't mean I wasn't f***ing tired and just wanting to go to bed. The difference is, you were only 7 minutes over your shift. I was about 3 hours past when I should have been done during a week when every day was about 15 hours long. If it looked like fun to you, that's your opinion towards something you know nothing about. Be more kind next time.

A Therapeutic Alternative is my favorite cannabis dispensary in the Sacramento area. I've tried several dispensaries Davis and found the quality of their products to be lacking.  I always come back to A Therapeutic Alternative. Good service, good advice, good products. What more could I ask for?

I have chronic pain and was referred to this business, for long term pain relief solutions. I am fairly new to using hybrid vape and all of the strains,  in general. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place for newbies, looking to learn about the various products. I was asking questions, about the products she was recommending...one lady specifically told me I had 6 mins to shop, and referred me to their website...and to go back out into the lobby!! Wow! What a way, to establish new clientele...for repeat business ! I will definitely be buying my products from another dispensary, in the future...there is one on every corner, now.  That was my first dispensary experience. No fun. Felt like an idiot, after that. Wish I would've just left without spending $$ there.

This place is perfect!  The store is tucked away with a welcoming security guard. Entering puts you in a positive mood.  No attitudes ever.   I've been here a few times and still go with the recommended products.  They look up what you purchased in the past and real fine tune what you need.

Friendly people, pleasant room, good prices. I use their curbside and the security guards and staff are always very nice. Gotta support your neighborhood dispensary! :)

Best place ever. Feels like heaven. The staff are all angels! Great selection of products, and quality products I may add. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and can help you find anything. I used to live three minutes from here, and now I am about 45 minutes away and I will always make the drive.

An update/upgrade is needed for my previous review. After working out some kinks with all the new regulations, ATA seems to have gotten back into their stride and I'm happy to see a return to the "old school" super friendly staff.  If you go at the right times, you won't have to wait too long. Staff are very knowledgable and willing to help and make suggestions. Front desk staff are quick, kind, efficient. Happy to see they've settled back into great service.

Just an average dispensary. The staff in here has changed recently and the budtenders dont really seem to care much about what they are doing or selling. Im sure everyone asks the same questions like, "whats your favorite" or "whats the best" but at least try and seem interested in what your selling. To be fair some people are friendly, but others just dont care. Also, the bud they have for display is always dry and stale. Seems they cant afford to have fresh bud to look at. Many jars of smoke Ive gotten here have been very dry and old. I always buy premium or top shelf bud, but its just not very good here. Lastly, everyone is pretty paranoid here. I understand there are rules to running a dispensary but the way this is run is really over the top. I dont know what everyone is so scared of, I've never been to any dispensary  thats run with so many strict ridiculous "rules".

the customer service is decent but I've consistently found that the products are old and dried out, when confronted with this information they simply said to go tell the farm where they grow it so they don't stand behind the product and they don't care if it's lower quality. Also the stickers that are supposed to prove freshness or seal are sometimes not even on the glass containers they give you, so somebody could have touched or messed with the contents inside which makes their dry products even more suspicious. Their stuff is also more expensive than other shops in the area so it's really not worth the choosing them over anyone else. Check out stockton blvd shop it's cheaper and better quality, I'm personally done wasting 100s of dollars here.

Overall pretty happy with my experience here.  Staff was nice and friendly the couple times I've shopped with them.  Quality control on their herb seems to be kind of hit or miss, but I think thats kind of how it goes nowadays with everything recreational.  I appreciate the cool neighborhood vibe here a lot!

We were in Sac just for a night and thought we'd grab some cartridges before heading out of town. This place was a last minute stop that I randomly picked from yelp and am glad we did. The initial sign in process is a pain and maybe a little unnecessary but everyone is nice and the waiting area is comfy. The shop portion is small and you can't help but hear what the people next to you are talking about. It's fine, I just prefer to be less crowded. Their selection is awesome though and she listened when we told her exactly what we were looking for. We also got some great shatter and a pen. The taxes in Sacramento are a bummer but we will keep this place on the list for next time we are back in town. Highly recommend - pun intended ;)

First visit here in search for "alternative" medical therapies for a loved one suffering from poor sleep. As a physician, walking into this store left me in a conundrum as I had to leave a lot of the classically thought, big pharma- driven practices in search of alternative means for a loved one with refractory, chronic insomnia. I have to say-- I'm glad I stepped into the store, and specially feel fortunate to have came at the time I did-- as Cole was working. Cole was very amiable, pragmatic, knowledgeable and most importantly helpful in identifying the perfect product for my family member. As a medical professional, I will definitely come back and would recommend talking with Cole to help identify your optimal therapeutic needs.

I have been going to Therapeutic Alternative for about 3 months. After trying some other dispensaries I love the Therapeutic Alternative. The security ppl greet you with a smile. If you haven't been in one of the beautiful homes with the big front porch it's a great little treat! It feels like home. The bud tenders are all really great! Special ppl, Cole, Joe & Jackie! They offer discounts for several different reasons, ask if you think you might qualify. One of the most exciting things I discovered was the complimentary wellness center. They offer FREE, YES FREE, services from sound therapy, conscious touch to yoga & massage. Wow.A Therapeutic Alternative is very plugged into the community and are there to help you feel better in so many ways.  Thank you Therapeutic Alternative for making a positive impact in my life!

Every time I go here they are so helpful and so kind. I've been coming here for years to get CBD for my dog, and they are always willing to talk to me and ask about my sweet girl. Thanks for all you guys do and helping the world be a better place.

Today was my first time in a dispensary and everyone was very helpful. I went because I have pain due to NMO, and my spasms have been getting worse. The gentleman that was helping me was kind and explained everything well. Looking forward to trying the items I bought and getting rid of my spasms.

Love this place. I went in needing some CBD oil and was given so much information about the different types of CBD oil/cream that would benefit my muscle pain. I got the body oil and it helped immensely. Highly recommend!!!

I'd never been to a dispensary. The front desk staff was very helpful. The signup seemed a little intrusive, but could be totally normal ‍‍ and I found the security a bit intimidating. Don't get me wrong, they were very nice but a couple huge guys "guarding" the door seemed a bit overkill.Since I have never been to a dispensary and I don't know the protocol I'd do 5 stars, but I'm going with 4 stars only because I got some conflicting info. The information from the front desk didn't jive with what the dispenser guy said in regards to what products work for.

This place used to be SO awesome, as of late, I'd say our last 7 visits, it's been absolute crap. The last time we went in was the last straw, first off let me say that the security guards and the front desk staff are always super nice and welcoming, best part of going there. My fav security guard is the super tall man and he's always just so nice, all of them are but he's there the most when we go there and he's always chill and sweet. So we're there and we get called to the little room on the left, the woman helping us seemed really hyper, defensive and was basically talking bad about all the products except absolute extracts, I'm sure some people like them but I absolutely HATE them, they always break, they don't taste good after like two uses and the oil always turns a different color and I just don't like them. We were interested in seeing what cartridges they had because they seem to carry less and less products every time we would go, which was like every two or three weeks. We told her specifically we didn't want absolute extracts and we expressed our disappointment with them, I told her I had also purchased a cbd cartridge from the sister company of AX and she told me they had a very liberal return policy and told me I should've taken it in, I told her that I've been told something different by 3 people working there, I spent 80 damn dollars on the product and only got to use it a few times because it broke and crapped out on me, brand new pen and everything and it wouldn't work. So they are not really consistent in the policy with faulty products. I won't even bother trying to return or exchange anything there. So we ask if they carry Select and she said no and said something to the tune of she won't carry those products in her store. Is she the owner? Is it her store? I don't know. So we continue looking and end up with another product which was good, but someone else came in and she tells them, "oh they can move, they've been here long enough", ummm ok. It just felt like we were bothering her and she was super defensive with us not wanting to purchase absolute extract products. I don't understand why they push that brand so hard on people. She was rude, aggressive and not passionate at all about helping people learn about the products. But we purchased the product and left. We recently went to another shop that had a huge selection of products and guess what? They were so much cheaper than ATA and super damn nice. Same brands and more. I won't be returning to ATA ever. The last visit was it, she was so rude and unprofessional and they have overpriced products.

I used to LOVE this dispensary. It was welcoming & clean, and I always got very good advice. I was hesitant to visit other dispensaries, they seemed a bit seedy to me. I come for medical reasons, not recreational. Their manager helped me greatly when I first started using CBD/THC for my pain & nerve trauma. With the legalization, things have changed. Every time I have gone since Jan. 1, the dispensary has been reformated (two waiting rooms, medicinal separate, etc), which is fine. I thought they just have to get acclimated to the new rules. It was always full, long waiting times. Yesterday I went, and there was one person ahead of me. I walked into what used to be the waiting room and find all the counters in there, not a separate medicinal area.I always get the same CBD oil, so I was surprised the prices were so much more. I was told they can not do the usual discounts anymore (used to be an extra discount on my oil on certain weekdays). I have been there since Jan1, and yet still yesterday everything was more than usual, so I ended up only buying one thing, and paid $10 tax on a $40.50 total? The taxes on Cannabis are so high, though this is not the dispensaries fault. For those of use that use CBD/THC for pain, etc this is all very unfortunate. I am forgoing chemicals that are paid for by insurance, but soon will not be able to afford this natural alternative for pain, even though they do graciously give me a 10% disabliity discount. After sending them an email, they offered to help me find an alternative way. That is excellent customer service.  Right now  I would recommend them for knowledge, and hopefully time will work out the kinks with the selling room.

The customer service is great! Parking can be a hassle since it's all the way in back, the prices are great! Really mellow and enjoyable environment!

The staff here is incredible. Kind, professional, and knowledgeable. I can always count on them for good suggestions, the proper dosage, and the kind of highs I want. They know their stuff! Besides that, they remember faces well which creates an inviting environment. The security is always courteous and assuring. Watch the way the staff here interact- very respectful and helpful to each other and their clients. A clean waiting room goes a long way with dispensaries. I've never felt rushed or unwanted here. Check out their express menu online! Shows you their inventory and allows you a fast experience if you know what you want and need to get in and get out. Legit my favorite dispensary in Sacramento. These guys are fantastic.

Wont be back.  ..  good smoke but charging me 5.00 fee for using a card  shows money is first..  A transaction only cost 50 cents.  That sharky mentality is not my style...disspointing....   yes they charge 5.00 for cards.   Ridiculous

A Therapeutic Alternative was the very first dispensary I ever visited when I became an official medical patient and it has been my go to ever since. I was honestly surprised to see how against the industry stereotype this place was. I had been to dispensaries in Colorado and browsed several shops Yelp beforehand, none of them were anything like ATA. You walk in the door and are greeted with a vintage decor that transports you to a 1920's doctors office. It is a nice change from the typical stark waiting room with rows of chairs and magazines scattered about at other places. I later found out the owner actually incorporated pieces of furniture and decor inherited from her grandmother, so the vintage feel is actually legitimate! Over the last 3 years I've watched this dispensary grow and evolve, and with all growth there are growing pains. After January 1st hit, my favorite little shop was one of a handful of dispensaries open in Sacramento with a license to sell cannabis. It was shocking to see a line around the building for days on end, when previously you could walk right in no problem and be helped in minutes. I had expected an uptick in traffic, but I don't think anyone expected such crowds. Talking to the staff, they were just as shocked and overwhelmed. They seemed to be trying their hardest to figure out how to adjust to their new customer base without excluding their previous patients. And they were doing it with grace.I visit the shop a few time a week and to watch this dispensary transform from one tiny room with one counter to what it is now has been truly incredible. People upset about them allowing "Adult-Use" members because they don't think it's acceptable are hypocritical. Most often you overhear these recreational members ask all the same questions medical and the staff confirmed that 80% of the recreational users that come in are looking for some kind of medical relief, it's just more accessible now that they don't have to have a prescription. It's over-the-counter medicine, you don't have to go get a prescription for Claritin and you certainly don't look down on people who obtain it without one... so why would you do that with cannabis?Has this been a bit of a bumpy transition into the new year? You betcha. Have all the other dispensaries had bumpy transitions as well? You're darn right. But was it the end of the world? I'm still writing this review, so I guess not. The staff here is simply awesome. They're genuine people who care. I have never experienced service like I receive at ATA from any other dispensary, and I've been to dozens of places all over Northern and Central CA. Ever person has their own quirky personality, but in the best way. They know more about using cannabis as a medicine than any other budtenders I have ever come across. They're helpful and compassionate as all heck! Short a dollar on your order? They will take it out of their own tips and cover you.The products fluctuated like crazy at ever dispensary once everyone ran through their stockpile from 2017, I'm flexible and know what I like so this wasn't a big deal for me. Lots of companies didn't make it after regulation and that's sad, but certainly no fault of the dispensaries. I'm not sure what exactly people expected to happen when a million unregistered and unregulated companies had to follow the law and get regulated. Things were never going to be perfectly smooth. But it seems like things are finally leveling out.Also hot tip: the taxes have nothing to do with the dispensaries either! So why complain about them as if it's the stores fault. There's like 4 taxes on my receipt they are required to collect and pay to multiple local and state government agencies. Do you think they decide the tax rate themselves and keep it? That's not how taxes work. That's not how any of this works.Keep up the great work ATA!

This was a wonderful and welcoming establishment in a cozy bungalow house with a beautiful garden out back. Not at all scary, shady, or in imposing industrial buildings like a few other dispensaries that I have visited in town. The interior was decorated in eclectic Victorian style with red velvet couches, chandeliers, and loud black/white curtains that all gave me a sort of Alice in Wonderland vibe. Such whimsy and fun made me feel at ease. Dennis helped me find the products I needed with excellent explanations and descriptions, plus a great sense of humor! I was extremely pleased by all the staff that I met.Parking was a bit of an issue since there are only 3 spaces behind the bungalow in the alley and the rest is street parking, so be mindful of that. And I also really appreciated the plain brown paper bags for my purchases. I will definitely be back!

Nice folks working here but the wait is very long and the parking was incredibly limited. The security, again-- nice guy, didn't know the rules for parking and instructed me to park illegally. This was my 2nd visit and their card reader was broken both visits. Their selection is fine. Though I live down the street, I'll be going a bit further to avoid the inconveniences.

Great products.  The office is Clean, wait isn't more than 5 min every time I've gone in.  A little on the expensive side- but I'd rather pay more for quality products.  Staff is very informative.  Not pushy sales people.

This dispensary is very nice inside with very friendly reception area and security guards. I am sure it is great if you are under 40 and already know what you want and they happen to have it and you are not trying to get any advice. The problems arise if you are new to cannabis and have health issues and need some more focused attention. One of the employees who appears to be in management (or is the owner) seems to be very stressed and irritated if you have questions and aren't sure what is right for you, causing you to take up more time than she wants you to. I was in with a friend who had never been to this dispensary before and suffers from neuropathy and had never used cannabis as a treatment but wanted to. She felt very rushed from the third party even though her actual consultant had quite a bit of knowledge and was very helpful to her. We were told by this third party, who I guess is the owner (?) to move it along. I had previous experience with this woman before, who had expressed a frustration regarding so many people "our age" coming in with too many questions taking up too much time. I'm sure that does happen! But in this most recent experience that was not the fact of what was happening, it was someone with real health issues who needed help. I do not doubt that it is challenging to keep things moving along and I'm sure many people "our age" can slow things down by showing up and not knowing exactly what we want. But sometimes it's more than just that.

Won't go anywhere else!  The knowledge you'll receive here alone is worth the trip!!  Coming from someone who had never "partaken" before and is strictly a medical patient I felt uncomfortable and had NO idea what to look for..  Fast forward 2 years..   they actually have a nice guy who works here that teaches classes!  They are 100% about the ENTIRE mind & body..  they offer some helpful spiritual classes as well.I am ALWAYS greeted with a warm friendly security guard & receptionist..and warm comforting environment.The only negative is parking..  street parking only I believe..  but I've never had to circle around more than once to find a spotHopefully this can give someone else out there the courage to give this a try to help them feel better...

A Therapeutic Alternative is now my go to dispensary after trying so many others in town. First, the waiting area is nice and comfortable. The staff makes you feel safe and secure. They are also super helpful. After completing our paperwork, went into the back and came across the best budtender ever, Laura. She walked my husband and I through all the different types of buds, answered my questions about edibles, and made sure we were happy. This place cares and is full of choices.

We went here because our doctor suggested we try it for pain management we brought in our doctors prescription and filled out all their paperwork went once a month for 4 months. Every time we went they said we didn't have a doctors form on file we refilled out all the forms again they assured us it would be fixed. Then we went back and the office manager said we did not have a medical file and was rude to my 87yr old mother needless to say we won't be back.

I love A Therapeutic Alternative. The staff here are friendly and very knowledgeable. This is the only place in town I go to for cannabis products.

I went in for a tour and to buy and the staff were so warm and welcoming! The dispensary manager was very informative and was very willing to answer any questions I had in terms of my career and passions. The house itself was very cool (a historical home) and they had a sweet kitty named Indica. Will 100% be coming back when I come back in town. Most definite recommend due to the patient and informative staff that helps you pick out strains or forms of THC.

A few days ago I went to this dispensary. I heard good things but did not have a good experience.The stated price on their menu of $75 was not honored for the product I purchased. I only realized this after seeing the receipt when I got home. Since they don't hand you the receipt and instead put it in the childproof bag, I bet a lot of other people don't realize they were overcharged until they get home.And what's up with charging $1 for a bag? Don't you think customers should know this? Again, only learned of it when I read my receipt.Also, I was very surprised to see the amount of taxes they charge is way below what the city of Sacramento and state taxes are supposed to be. I'm not sure this place knows what they are doing. I don't think I'll go here again.

New to the neighborhood and kept driving by so I finally decided to stop in for the first time. The service was quick and the staff were super friendly and professional. Everything advertised on their website was in stock. The shop itself was extremely clean. They gave a 5% discount for being a new customer. Will definitely visit again.

Oh why didn't I find this place sooner?A doorman/security watches the front and let's people in. Someone at the front desk checks you in and you wait in their sitting room, you can check out the offerings on a binder. I like this because it tells you the strains, THC levels, effects. That's amazing!The workers here are pleasant and informative, but I feel could be a touch more friendly.You can tell they care about their patients. Offering yoga, sound therapy, massage, etc. Haven't used those services yet, but hopefully soon!Drawback is parking is interesting and is cash only.

Wow. This place honestly cares about the quality of its products and the health of its customers. Prior to mandatory third party testing of all cannabis products in CA, ATA lab checked the quality and safety of every product it ever sold. Can't think of another dispensary that is this serious about what they sell to the public. And knowledgeable staff, what a pleasure to see employees dedicated to the well being of their clients. Way to go ATA!

Overpriced and they are strict about parking like they only have 2 parking spots in the back then street parking. I wouldn't waste my time going back there again.

This place is a little bit different than others because it's in a house and the parking is difficult at times and it's not normally my first choice for getting my medication but it sure does come in handy when nobody else has anything with decent quality.  While you are waiting to go to the bud room there is a seating area with a menu so you can get an idea of what you might want to look at when you finally get back there which is cool. Every time I have been here it's never been slow, always seems to be a bit busy so the menu area sure does come in handy.  The staff seems pretty knowledgeable about the medications they have and they stay friendly, however sometimes the prices are a bit high depending on what you want and of course this place doesn't include the tax in the prices.  They do always have a pretty wide bud selection to choose from which is why this place earned the three stars.

Aside from verifying that buyers are over 21 years of age, this dispensary is not required by law to obtain any personal information from their customers. Yet they do. If you value your privacy, consider going  elsewhere.

I was kind of skeptical about going here because I usually go elsewhere but to be honest I'm glad I selected this one out of all the other competitors in midtown. This place is super homey with great vibes and friendly people. It was a quicker process than I expected the wait wasn't long at all. I walked in and filled out a little paperwork waited for 5 minutes and then I was brought to the back. They're very helpful and there bud is top shelf. Compared to the others they're bud is high quality especially for the price. They also offer free services like massages, yoga and therapy which is very cool. I'm very impressed I'll be returning here again soon.

Hey, so this is the second time I've been to this dispensary and the first time was awesome! The guy that helped myself and boyfriend was Very helpful and relatable, especially on something that could help me sleep, I wish I got his name. However, this time ( second time ) I didn't quite have that same feeling before. The guy that was helping me was in the same room I first visited perviously.  im terrible with names, But he was on the older side. However, I felt discouraged and rushed. It wasn't the greatest time. But The whole dispensary was friendly and welcoming, just not in that moment. Will be trying this place again, thirds time a charm!

I went to this dispensary a couple of years ago and had a Really amazing experience I was so sick my friend had to drive me and I was curled up in the fetal position in pain they offer healing services in addition to really good advice and they stand by their product. I decided to return recently due to trying and failing 45 different Western medications and having been told by UC Davis that for me I have Lifelong pain And there's not much more they can do for me. So I decided to return to this dispensary after going to other dispensaries in the area that frankly were not really geared towards people that are sick. I find the waiting area very comfortable And the staff very friendly. They went above and beyond to spend time with me and help me and have compassion for my situation which is very rare. I can't say enough about these people I'm using CBD because I can't handle high levels of THC but I'm finding the product really starting to help me it did take a few days to kick in and to figure out the right dose but again I'm very thankful.

I enjoyed the professional service from the first step into the place, very welcoming, good advice, and a great direction how to start, that fit my needs. Was very nervous going in. But it's really a professional.

I never write reviews but gotta say that this is the best dispensary in all of Sac. I've been to the majority of dispensaries in the Sac area and there is no other place that can compete. Their staff are super friendly and far more educated than any other dispensary, they will educate you even if you think you know a lot about weed. I could write much more about this place but if you've never been here before, I highly recommend to try it once and you'll never go anywhere else. Shout out to my bud tender today, Cole. Dude is the man and got me set up with some good tree and a cartridge. Someone give that man a raise!!

Staff is super sweet. The girl that assisted me really took the time to hear me out on what I needed and took the time to walk me through my options. Would highly recommend!

This place is very well ran. Very professional. In a cool Victorian. Super clean. The staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about their products. Ask you questions to make sure you get the right thing for your needs. I'll go back every time I need something for sure. I highly recommend you try it.

My first time to this location.  The security and front office staff were so nice.  Unfortunately that was the most pleasurable experience there. The person that assisted me was not very personable and lacked patience.  She seemed a little frustrated when I wasn't understanding what she was explaining.  I would ask again for explanation because she assumed I knew all the lingo. I was referred to them because of their attentiveness and ability to educate you on the products. I left there overwhelmed and was not a positive experience for me. Thank you Jacqueline for your lack of customer service etiquette.

It was a good dispensary. Unfortunately now their selection is extremely limited, they are selling seedy product at premium prices, and you are made to feel like you are waiting like a crackhead outside a crack house in line outside in the elements. Very disappointed...

Recently got my prescription, have been to all dispensaries in sac this one has such a positive and good energy about it. They really value the patients and answer any question or concern. Also the person helping me was amazing I wish I got her name! Auburn hair lady was very attentive and awesome. Also the gentleman greeting at the front door really made my day with his welcoming vibe and positivity.

Good energy all the way around.  The staff are courteous, well trained and aware of what medicine works for what constitution. I trust them, and they also have fantastic people that offer sound bowl healing, yoga, energy work...all for the customers.

Not very impressed with this business. Firstly, we had to wait in line outside for almost an hour. They take photo copies of your IDs and make you fill out forms asking for a lot of personal information like your phone number and email. We were shuttled to multiple waiting rooms. Once we were finally helped the employees seemed to rush us and didn't explain their products well. You had to ask for the price of every item, which was insanely high. They also didn't seem to like when I told them I didn't want to spend a bunch of money. It was like, why are you even here. Also they didn't like you browsing at all. Just get in and get out.  Very negative experience, I would recommend one of the other numerous medical marijuana stores in town.

First time buying recreational in California and this place treated me very well. They answered all my questions and I didn't feel rushed. They have a nice selection of candy edibles.  I will use them again.

Very poor service, the layout is horrible and it feels like a medical office. Went for recreational use and was very limited on my options. Security staff was great, but other staff seemed not adequate for their job. I will not be visiting again!!

ATA I'm disappointed. The owner touts herself as a true advocate of the company but she's no different than any other dispensary owner. This place is over priced. They needed better budtenders.No way will I support this place getting an onsite consumption lounge.

I had the most horrible experience here it's obvious there employees aren't well educated on cannabis because the gentleman had no way of explaining percentages on cartridges and he didn't want to show us any flower on the top shelf the receptionist is rude it was our first time and I won't be coming back

Over priced, not helpful and they make you fill out paperwork for no good reason. There is a long wait time. They were negligent enough to recommend edibles to someone who is very sensitive to THC and has not  used any marijuana for years prior. Abatin Wellness Center was much better in many ways.

When Recreational became legal, everybody was in chaos as the standards kept changing weekly.  Then the testing lab was busted for not testing all products (probably bribed by the Kolas Russians to pass tainted cannabis from Nevada).  All the dispensaries had problems, and ATA was no exception (could no longer let customers handle products and everything had to be pre-packaged), but they have the additional problems of being right near a pre-school, a middle school, and a public park.  They are the only dispensary that I use that continued my medical status when I got the prescription renewed.  Their selection is the best I have encountered and, yes, the tall security guard is a real sweetheart.  By the way, he is seven foot four inches, and will respond to being called 7-4.

Excellent quality meds and regular selection of medical grade CBD oils and caps. Friendly atmosphere and a great assortment of goodies. This is one of the few places me and my wife found that actually test their meds and display the results. Great freeway access off the 99 and be sure to park in back and NOT in the neighboring properties. They gave us a free gift of rice crispies(Quite potent).  Enjoy, you can't go wrong here.

A clinic that is located inside a old house. The staff is nice and friendly. My wife and I joked that maybe they were ex-hippies because they seemed so positive. Overall, I comfortable place to get your meds.

This is absolutely hands down the best dispensary in town!!!Not only do they have a rad selection of bud, edibles, vape pens, and glassware but they have the best patient services in California!!! I have recently been seeing Kellyann for sound therapy. She is a true blessing to be around. If you don't know what sound therapy is, no problem. Go in and ask about free reflexology, free massage, fee reiki healing, free sound therapy:). The positivity radiates throughout this wonderful dispensary. It feels like such a warm and caring environment from every member of the staff.  I have only had wonderful experiences here and I go back as much I possibly can. Please please please go and see the wonderful Kellyann, she is a special Angel and I am so happy to have the pleasure of her therapy.  When I leave a sound therapy session it is like my soul is singing and I'm totally at peace. Not really sure why people would give such good reviews just because they feel "comfortable". The meds are overpriced and low grade, the edibles I've tried don't do a damn thing, and the extracts were black and burnt. The staff was friendly and the place was well kept but I won't be coming back unless they improve their bud quality.

Wow. I had such an awesome experience at this dispensary. It was made all the more sweet since I was just coming out of a horrible experience at the cannabis doctor.First, to comment on their parking (which has gotten a few negative reviews on various websites)You do have to drive around the house find parking. If you try to park in the side spaces which are reserved for other stors, they will ask you to move. After parking, walk around to front of house. As I walked up the steps, the door was unlocked by a very tall imposing security guard. He greeted me politely as did several employees who asked if it was my first time there. Whole I waited to check in, everyone chatted amicably with me. (The security guard is quite used to being asked how tall he is.)After my paperwork was processed and I filled out some forms, I was shown the price binder by a friendly person named Jennifer.A few minutes later, I was introduced to Rich, who is one of the cannabis advisers. If you don't know anything about cannabis or what type you might want to use, this is a great place to get top-notch information. I knew that I wanted a topical for arthritis and I even knew which one.  But even so, Rich's knowledge about tinctures and edibles intrigued me. I have so many chronic pain issues that I probably will try those forms of cannabis later. I was given a couple of samples of edibles. Rich asked about my experience with cannabis and when I told him it was very minimal, he advised me to try small amounts of the yummy looking cannabis-infused chocolate I was given. Rich spent a lot of time with me and when I was finished with him, I was introduced to Annie. I'm not exactly sure Annie's title is. Apparently this fabulous facility treats members like family. They have a calendar full of free services that vary each day. They have massage, cancer support groups, personal support, meditation-type groups and much more. Most of the services are provided on a walk in basis. I just can't say enough great things about this place. I had a hard time deciding where to go, but since there was a particular cream that I wanted to try and this facility was listed on the creams's website as carrying it, I decided it was worth the extra drive. I am so glad that I made that decision. This will definitely be my "go to" place for all my cannabis needs and much more. Updated one month later: unfortunately after this initial awesome visit and a couple of consultations with Danny, things have gone downhill. I don't really have the energy to go into detail but let's just say they're nice at the beginning and then once they have your business; not so much. So I'm going to downgrade them to three stars. Hey Danny, I think you know who I am. If you want to get your five stars back call me.

I am beyond impressed with the professionalism and accoutrements that come along with this facility. The environment is very relaxing and welcoming! They have limited parking, bear that in mind when visiting. First things first, they have security at the door which comforts me a bit.. no nut jobs or thieves coming in during my visit :-) next, you give your credentials at the front desk and they quickly get you signed in and send you to a comfortable waiting area. As with most dispensaries I think they tend to get super busy at peak times, but I find that the people in the waiting area make for good conversation and unlike other dispensaries, this place allows you to fiddle around on your cell phone as long as you're not talking or taking pictures. Once in, everybody is super patient and informative, they take the time to make sure you get exactly what you want and do not seem to rush anything. Prices are very competitive to other dispensaries nearby, and they have an incredibly large selection of CBD. I'm not a fan of THC for my back pain and anxiety, CBD is ideal. Dispensaries cater to those who want the head high, so I'm grateful this place accommodates everyone. We did have a small situation where I got an edible CBD oil and got a little more than I bargained for.. I left all the getting stoned to my high school years, and I certainly don't need to medicate with it these days. They were happy to issue a refund or credit, and were very insistent on taking the product back to the lab to retest to see if it had a higher amount of THC than it was supposed to. They also have these amazing binders in the waiting area loaded with all the information you could possibly need about all of their products and services, oh yeah did I mention they offer free massages, yoga, therapy sessions and chats with actual doctor's? This place is the best dispensary I have been to in the Sacramento area thus far.

Lovely, clean, and friendly place. I love love love the decor. I wish the classes were at more doable hours but I love the co-op feel. All of the employees are very professional and helpful. I will be back.

I've been coming to therapeutic alternative as a medicinal patient for some time now. I like the fact it's close to my house and the staff is friendly. I recently got pre packaged flower from them when I came home and weighed it which I never do it was half of what I should've gotten  I called them and the manager "Jennifer" offered to give me 10% off my next purchase which is ok I guess but I just wanted the difference in weight back. Really disappointed time to start exploring other options!

Today I, 70+ year-old woman, had a consultation with Danny. So glad I did! I left feeling not only better informed but a great deal of my anxiety was lifted. I think he's the perfect person for the job he holds. He's experienced, empathetic, and not at all pushy. He really seems to want to recommend the right treatment for you as an individual, working with you at your comfort level--psychologically and monetarily. I was pleasantly surprised at my options and how customizable dosing is. I no longer have the fear I did before talking with Danny. Thank you so much.This dispensary has many services and products, so I feel no reason to go elsewhere, despite having to drive from Orangevale.

I have to say as a new card holder I was nervous.......I was greeted at the door with a smile......ushered in and quickly recognized as a new client.  Both gentlemen helped me through every step and made feel very welcome and very much at home.  Once in to make my selections, the third gentlement treated me with respect as he fielded my questiins and made the appropriate suggestions..............a few days later I returned and there was a different group of workers..... all equally friendly anf welcoming.  Randy the security guy even gave us hugs as we departed.  I am gery glad that I was referred here and l9ok forward to many more positive experiences in the future visits!!!

Basing my review as a brand new customer, completely clueless about the world of medical marijuana dispensaries. Not having ever been a user of marijuana (medical or otherwise), I was quite nervous about the whole experience. First off, the location of this place is great for those who might be worried (yeah, that would be me) about skulking about in a back alley -- it's a beautiful old home right near McKinley Park. Second, everyone working there was so very helpful in getting things set up and in explaining the different cannabis oils and such. They really made me feel at home right off the bat. I can't comment on the selection or prices since I'm a total newbie, but I'd definitely give them my highest recommendation if you're new to this game!

Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I felt very comfortable here. Prices are a bit high. That's why I'm giving 4 stars. Everyone is happy and super positive. The door guys even give hugs when you leave. :)

LAME LAME LAME!  This is a recreational marijuana store. However they still wanted my driver's license photo copied,  my social security number, my email address,  my home address and my phone number. I asked 3 times why they would need this . The person behind the counter kept saying "just so we can keep track of you". Completely unacceptable these days. I decided this is not information a local business should demand of me. I left and went elsewhere. Shop elsewhere with a business owner that doesn't feel they need to know all your personal information. The absolute worst type of Corporation.

This is by far the best dispensary in all of Sacramento. Everyone there greets you warmly, is full of knowledge and very helpful when answering questions. They really want to help you find what works for you, not just sell you whatever they can. Whenever I ask for an opinion, I receive a well-thought out and informed one. I feel very grateful to have a place like this to purchase from.

Every damn time I come here it takes forever, even if there's nobody in there! The staff are not efficient and take their sweet ass time ! If you come here, don't expect to be in and out even if it's not busy. The prices are crazy too! You'd think that since they charge so much they would hire people that don't sit there spacing out that can't  help customers efficiently so they can get their stuff quickly.

Super friendly and professional! Always willing to answer any questions and offer advice. Prices are reasonable too. Love that the place is secured by a doorman. I definitely recommend to check it out. This is the first cannabis store we've been to and we were (my husband and I) nervous but right away felt comfortable!

I cant put into words the compassion this place has for their patients, I am one. I feel sorry for anyone who may have had a bad experience here, I on the other hand have had nothing but good experiences here and hope to continue coming here for a long time. Wow! Was my first time in and all the staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. The vibe was comfortable and very professional. Being new to this they were able to provide me with a ton of great information. I'm very pleased with the experience and will be back.

Everyone is so nice and friendly. They are knowledgeable and everything is high quality and good price. Parking isn't great but I live so close I can walk. Also the security guard gives great hugs and there are cute nurses. it's great.

I was welcomed and very impressed with the help I received from Kelli Ann who is very knowledgable and gave me great feedback about specifics for my health needs. Other staff were also helpful and patient in answering my questions as this was my first visit to an alternative therapy clinic.  I have recommended this place to several other friends of mine who have health issues and are looking to learn more about alternative healing remedies.  I am glad there are people willing to help educate our society to the wonders of natural healing.Celia G

I like this place it's super close by my area! I always like their edibles, but the only thing is that they run out of 4:20 bar choices pretty quick and I hate dark chocolate. LOL. But besides that the staff is very friendly too every time I come in.

One of the worst experiences I have ever had at a dispensary. Tidious paperwork, rude customer service, they made me stand in line when and I got my turn security guard told me I am not parked in their parking lot so they cannot serve me. So I changed the parking and he sent me back of the line. I went inside(with my helmet) while I sat next to security guard for 20 mins said nothing. when it was my turn told me to take my helmet outside. This is just insane behavior. Very rude do not recommend.

I have become a frequent customer and appreciate the EXCELLENT customer service experience when I work with Cottie. She remembers my past purchases and recommends new products. It is rare in this new retail experience to meet someone that takes an interest in the customer. Thanks so much.

I say the adjective  "fu($ing" to my wife and the snowflake child working there threatens to kick me out because I said that word and it stressed her out. Won't be going there again. Hire someone who doesn't act like a child

Came here a couple of months ago and purchased a cartridge. A few days later, the cartridge stopped working - maybe due to a defect. I had thrown away the receipt, so wasn't sure if I could return it, but I came in a few weeks later to try. They were completely able to fully return the cartridge for me even though I didn't have a receipt, and they even gave me a buy one get one for $1 cartridge deal that day! The person helping me was so amazing and incredibly helpful. Excellent customer service, and I will be coming here from now on! Also, the space is clean and feels safe! 10/10

I called on the way over to confirm they accepted card or I needed to stop at an atm. The gentleman on the line told me that they did accept card and that I did not need to stop off an atm. I proceed in back I get right to place my small order, get my card out and then proceed with the transaction. As I went to out my card in and enter my pin it rang up to 50 and they clerk said I would be refunded the difference as she could tell I was confused. The atm fee they charged was 3.50 and I would not have proceeded if I would have known. I wish they would have communicated that as I was passing my bank and could have stopped off, I even called to avoid that. They should have stated we have an atm basically not that accept card as payment when it comes out as an atm transaction and fee on top taxes and other fees

This place was really good to me for the first few years. Which is great, because when I first moved up here from the East Bay, I was worried about the lack of clubs within a 30 minute drive.  I've been coming here for over 3yrs as a medical patient.  I suffer from chronic PTSD as well as a couple of other serious illnesses. This was a major concern for me moving up here too. I had compassion programs set up w/2 major clubs in SF and the East Bay.  Lately, they've been out of CBD products, a lot - to the point I  go online and place an express order to ensure I'm able to get the medicine before all of it sells out.  Luckily, I was able to get online Friday afternoon and place an order that included a much needed CBD 1:1 vape cartridge.  When I got into the "Newsroom" to p/u the express order, the  person showed me that the vape cartridge was "out of stock" (written on the already printed receipt w/the cartridge charge on it).  I asked how that could be when it was in stock on the menu at the time of ordering@4:30pm.  She stated that it was simply a place holder for the product & didn't mean it was actually in stock. I asked if there were any other 1:1 CBD cartridges & was told  no.  When I expressed my disappointment that the one item I truly needed wasn't available - she asked me if I still wanted the other items I ordered and pointed out that I was coming in anyways for the FREE compassion 1/8th (that was NOT my main reason for a 1hr RT). With attitude.She also pointed out that I was getting the compassion discount (thank you for pointing out the obvious & that I'm poor).  Had I known there was no CBD cartridges available, I wouldn't have made the order & trip.  An 1/8th of Indica is nice, but I rely upon CBD.  As a 14+ year volunteer & HIV educator, outreach coordinator for HIV, Hep C & the SFAF Needle Exchange - the attitude was not helpful at all.  I left there feeling ashamed, belittled and  humiliated.  I cried a bit in my car before leaving. Compassion means giving people hope, care, love, empathy, help and understanding.  I got none of this on the 14th. I'd like to add that even though this wasn't a pleasant experience, I do appreciate everything they do here for patients and those of us whom are low income, but need non-pharmaceutical medication.

I am very new to the cannabis scene and A Therapeutic Alternative was suggested to me early on in my wellness journey. Since then I have been to a handful of dispensaries and hands down therapeutic alternative is the place where I feel most comfortable and truly cared for. Every employee is incredibly knowledgeable, takes their time to answer my (tons and tons) of questions and friendly. I never feel rushed to make a decision and always leave with a big smile on my face. Today, Michelle, helped myself and my girlfriend and she was just incredible. Again, she was incredibly knowledgeable, answered everything I asked, and gave plenty of options when items were out of stock. This is forever my go to place and in my opinion, no other dispensary compares in Sacramento. You guys are the best and your customer service is much appreciated.

The location is awesome. It's in midtown by park. There are a ton of transit options available (bus, light rail, Uber, bikes, etc.). They don't have a parking lot which kinda sucks but there is some street parking nearby if you get lucky.They have very friendly staff. Chris was amazing and provided insightful information. He even helped us out on where to eat afterwards. They take card but they also have an ATM if you need it.The prices are about average with your normal dispo. They have 2 rooms that you can go to and they have a lot of options from flower to wax and edi's. Bottom Line/TLDR: great people and great location

Let me open this review with some facts; I am new to Sacramento, from a non-legal State. However, to find the products I was looking for, I went to several highly rated dispensaries around Sacramento. I think they are all great, and I am thrilled to have experienced each one - the staff in each dispensary are amazing. Admittedly, I am in my early 40's, married, and I have already lived the clubbing/nightlife craziness, which is why I love A Therapeutic Alternative! I love how their parking spaces are a bit hidden behind the hella cute house turned into a dispensary. I sincerely appreciate their required paperwork for newbies; it highlights the services they provide, what they do, why they do it, and how they do it. Ensuring the NEW CUSTOMER is fully informed before conducting any business with A Therapeutic Alternative, which I genuinely appreciate. Both security officers were super duper sweet; the intake person behind the counter was also very accommodating. When I went to the back to engage with tending staff, I had the distinct pleasure of engaging with Cottie, who is deeply knowledgeable of cannabis products. Not only is Cottie deeply knowledgeable, but she is also friendly, funny, and sweet. A Therapeutic Alternative is my favorite dispensary, and I will visit them often; so should you.

Act now, rim out the door, grab your ride and visit with the nice's people at this old victorian building and go home and relax to a GOOD BURN. ?? YO ?

if you guys haven't heard of left coast extracts I'd highly recommend checking into them. The carts, pods & diamonds are all so fire, just not tons of places nearby who carries it yet. Keep it up with the top quality service here, keeps me coming back every time.

Great staff and selection but they need to get it together when it comes to wait times. Even when you order Express Pickup online you end up waiting 10-20 minutes. What's the point of having express services if your clients still have to wait as long as walk-ins? Unless this gets sorted out I'll take my business somewhere else. Edited to add, I have now had to wait over 30 minutes for an express order. Def not coming back.
